Aerosmith & The End of an Era. Retiring from Touring

On the 2nd of August, 2024, the news broke that Aerosmith was finished touring. I can't say that I'm totally surprised, but I think even as we prepare ourselves for this (which I have been since 2004)... I still wasn't ready to hear it.

Aerosmith have been close to me for my whole life, and I first got to see them on the Just Push Play tour in Calgary in 2002. I was 14 and it was a spectacular evening that despite always loving the band, it really opened up something spectacular in me and from that moment, I was all in. Even becoming known as Aerosmith Girl in my town at music shops (RIP Charisma in Calgary!) and of course, at school, my friend circles and that has never changed.

I never felt so alive listening to music, so happy and so next level cool, like my soul was understood and lets be honest, the music is sexy and captivating and powerful. It is enchanting and I can honestly say that it saved me so many times and gave me the will to continue. Easing the feelings of loneliness and brightening the dark times.

I hold the memories of friendship and the couple times I met Steven and the one time I met Joe. They seemed genuinely happy to meet me. First in 2004 when Steven noticed that I was essentially about to pass out and totally star struck to meet him and he made sure I was next to me for the group photo. And then in 2010, on Joe's birthday where Joe said I was a star, and Steven drew a little heart on me which I later had tattooed... And the last time I could see them in 2014 when I flew across the world to see them in Norway with Alice Cooper... where I made more friends. And that's another story!

I know many remember the forums in AeroForceOne and I know I met a ton of friends on there - despite not being on too often and the friends made via twitter that I am still friends with today.

This band (and many more) have brought so many people together creating a spark of love and life throughout our souls. It's our love of a band, a song, a feeling, an energy that connects all of us. There's something unique about it and I have seen so many of my friends, and celebrities speaking out since the announcement about how Aerosmith made an impact on their lives and inspired them in every way.

In a way, we've entered a period of mourning, but we have to remember that it is our memories that keep it alive, and also - that truly, they aren't dead. I shed a lot of tears when the news broke and I keep tearing up throughout the day since but I have to truly give thanks for being able to witness something so spectacular. Maybe I didn't see them in the 70s... or the 80s... or the 90s! But it doesn't mean that the love doesn't run deep and fully.

I am hoping that maybe we could get another album or even a couple songs, but time will tell and that is okay!

What I do wish, is that Steven takes care of his health, and the band all take care of themselves. That's way more important than Steven ruining his voice fully and causing more damage. I think this is the best decision, and it's amazing to be strong enough to call it quits on an extremely high note. Steven, we love you!

Thank you for the magic that you brought to all of our lives. And let this be your little reminder to head out, enjoy the music, and see the bands you love when you can. Because you just never know. You owe it to your soul!

Do you have any special Aerosmith memories? Let me know, I want to hear them all!!

Have a beautiful week!

Ash. (AKA AeroAsh)!
